I'm looking for
Women / Monogamous Relationship / D.C. area (or close enough where we could see each other a lot)
Interests & Hobbies
Technical/nerdy
- Engineering / making stuff - robotics, electronics, 3D printing, computer programming, etc. I do some of this kind of stuff for my job, but I also enjoy it as a hobby, for both practical and impractical purposes. I’m currently trying to figure out how to convert part of my apartment into a robotics lab!
- Blogging - I started this a few months ago. So far I’ve mostly been writing about forecasting / prediction markets, but there’s a bunch of other random stuff I’d eventually like to write about
- I’m interested in pretty much anything adjacent to science, technology, politics, economics, progress, “ideas”, philosophy, … I have more of a problem sticking to any particular project because I’m interested in too much stuff versus not having enough ideas for interesting things to do
Non-technical/nerdy
- Watching sports, especially NFL, NBA, and Golf (but really anything). Go Packers!
- Watching TV shows and movies
- Exercise - I lift weights and/or run most days
- Playing sports - I enjoy pretty much anything, but especially basketball
- Outdoors stuff - camping, hiking, biking, etc. My family has done a bunch of road trips to different parts of the country, mostly visiting national parks / outdoors places and I definitely want to do more of that in the future. I’ve been to 46/50 states!
- Exploring different cities
- Cooking - I got really interested in cooking a few years ago and I really enjoy it (and I’m pretty good at it now!)
Personality
- Relaxed, low-stress person. Rarely get really high/low emotionally
- Goofy, although it takes a bit for me to get comfortable enough around people to let this side of my personality out
- Fairly quiet / introverted, especially around people I don’t know well. Once I’m with a group of people I know well I’m pretty lively though
- Okay being on my own much of the time, but also really value social time in low-to-moderate doses
- Competitive - but only in a fun way, not in a “takes-it-too-far” way
- Analytical - I mean I do programming and prediction markets for fun, lol
Values
- I want to help as many people as possible be happier, healthier, and more fulfilled. This is a guiding principle when making big life decisions
- I agree with the basic ideas behind effective altruism, i.e. that we should try to be strategic about how we “do good” in order to maximize impact and that people far away matter as much as people close by
- I also want to be happy myself! Lately I’ve been trying to get better at building and maintaining relationships with friends and family. I’ve become increasingly convinced that strong social connections are the key to happiness
- Religion: Agnostic. I was raised Catholic, but stopped believing sometime during high school. I miss the community and ritual that went along with being religious though. (I would be okay dating someone religious if my agnosticism wouldn’t be a problem to them)
- Politics: liberal - I agree with most of the ideas outlined here
Goals/Ambitions
- I think I can accomplish a lot and feel compelled to try and have a big positive impact on the world. I’m not totally sure of what the best way is for me to do this, but it’s my main overarching life goal
